If you are from the South, you know that Sausage Balls grace most every tailgate, baby shower, or brunch. While Sausage Ball recipes have been floating around for decades, we love this twist on my mom’s traditional version.
These are perfect for your upcoming football-watching parties or tailgates! Freeze uncooked Sausage Balls ahead of time for easy game day prep!

Cream Cheese Sausage Balls
1 lb. sausage, uncooked
8 oz cream cheese, softened
2 cups Bisquick baking mix
8 oz sharp cheddar, shredded
Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
Using mixer with dough hook attachment (or by hand), mix all ingredients until well combined. Roll into 1-inch balls and place on an ungreased baking sheet.
Bake about 20 minutes or until brown. (Mine were ready at 18 minutes). Watch carefully.
If you are baking frozen sausage balls, add a few minutes to bake time.
Be sure to Pin It to save and make later!

I have from the South, SC for 26 years and before that MS! Yes, Sausage Balls are a given at any get together. But…cream cheese! Be still my heart! I have pinned because I know I will be making these sooner rather than later. Saw your link on 52 Mantels.

These look yummy, but I wonder if you could translate the flour/soda/baking powder out of the Bisquick? I try to avoid bisquick if I can (but I’m definately not perfect!)

Another Southerner here, NC to be exact. Yes sausage balls are a staple. Unfortunately, my system got to a point where it could not longer handle sausage so I quit making them for a long time but last time I ate some sausage I seemed to do okay. So, maybe I can start back doing sausage balls.

I have been making these with cream cheese the last couple of years. AMAZING. Everyone loves them. I have to bring them to my various relatives when I go to visit otherwise I am not let in the front door. They freeze well (before baking). I usually make a double recipe and I use the the garlic cheese Bisquick mix. I will make/cook a couple dozen and then go ahead and roll the rest of the dough into the balls; lay out on cookie sheet and place in the freezer for 30-45 minutes (so they won’t stick together later). Then take them and put in a gallon freezer bag and pull them out of the freezer as needed or craved!

These look so delicious! I’m from New England, so I will use that as my excuse for my ignorance. What kind of sausage should I use? Breakfast sausage or Italian sausage? Thanks for your understanding and response.
